April 2016 ipsy Glam Bag Review

It's that time of the month again! ipsy Glam Bag time!

For any new readers or those unaware, the ipsy Glam Bag is a monthly beauty subscription service. You pay $10 a month, or $110 a year (basically you get one bag free for paying up front for a year) and once a month a package comes straight to your mailbox that contains a cute little makeup bag and five full size, or deluxe size sample beauty products. It's a great way to try out new products and build your makeup collection for a cheap price.

ipsy has a survey on their site where you can tailor your box to your likes and wants. Every month they have around 35 to 40 different items that go into the bags, and the survey helps them to customize the five items in your bag to suit you. You can further customize your future bags by reviewing your bag items on the ipsy website. While the bag might be the same for everyone, the contents are different.

This is the second month I've received the ipsy Glam Bag. I have a one-year subscription, and I'll be reviewing my bag every month for the duration of my subscription. I switched up how I did my review a bit this month.

The theme for the April 2016 Glam Bag, is Dream On!

I really love this months bag. It's tie-dye and makes me think of an impressionist painting of a blue sky and a sunset mingling together.

Tarte Cosmetics LipSurgence Lip Crème in the color Wonder- sample size- $12.50

The formula of this is so creamy and buttery that it really feels more like a tinted lip balm than a lip color. The color is very pretty. It's a bright, poppy pink color.

I was so excited to see this in my bag. I LOVE highlight. I've become a highlight fanatic in the last several months. When all this contour and highlight stuff started, I was milling around at the back of the crowd not even interested in trying it. Then a friend of mine, and her gorgeous selfies on FB, got me curious and I went out and bought a cheap highlighter to give this fad a try. There is nothing in this world that can match the joy of a perfect highlight. This pretty little highlight trio does not disappoint. The colors are perfect for highlight. They are nicely pigmented and have that perfect satiny sheen you expect from a highlight.

I just don't feel like this brush is full enough to be a blush brush. It's a nice soft brush, but it isn't very dense. It's much better suited to loose powders and pigments. I ended up using it with a translucent powder to blend out an overzealous highlight application. It is a great blending brush.

This mask is full of moisturizing and exfoliating ingredients, I knew it was going to leave my skin soft and smooth. It was a tad difficult to wash off, and I had some minor redness that may have been from the product or from my scrubbing. Either way, it didn't last very long. I really like this mask. So much so, that it might be replacing my regular mud mask.

Can we just take a minute to look at the Jor'el Parker logo and give the company props for being branding geniuses? The logo is diamond shield shape with the companies initials inside, much like the symbol worn by Superman, who's father's name is Jor'el. Well played Jor'el Parker, very well-played. Okay, now that I hung my NERD out there for everyone to see...

Moroccanoil brand Moroccanoil Treatment for hair- sample size- $8.50

Meh. What can really be said about it? It's just another run of the mill argan oil treatment. I don't heat style, or use any kind of products in my hair so I don't have a whole lot of use for this. I'll pass it on to someone who might actually use it. This is the second month of Glam bags for me and the second month of receiving a hair product that I specifically said I didn't want on the ipsy survey.

In all, this bag was pretty good. It has a value of $42.48, which is really decent. I really like the highlight trio, the mud mask, and the lip color. The brush is okay and the hair treatment was a total bust. I'm still not deterred and I'm looking forward to next months bag. I once again did the reviews on the ipsy website and I'm hoping they will get the picture that I don't want hair stuff. I do feel like I'm getting my $10 worth, so for now, I'm going to stick with it.

Awesome haul, I like the lipstick and the mud mask! I can't remember the last time I used a mud mask, it always feels so refreshing after you wash it off.

  11. Cute bag! I just re-subbed after cancelling for a year. I'm sorry I missed this bag though I did just get the mark in my Lip Monthly bag which is how I ended up here. Just so you know, you can't specifically say you don't want anything with Ipsy. Well, what I mean is you can't opt out of getting specify products. They try to tailor your bag to you but there's no way to just avoid getting certain products. I wish they would! 😊
