June 2016 ipsy Glam Bag Review

It's that time of the month again, ipsy Glam Bag time!

For any new readers or those unaware, the ipsy Glam Bag is a monthly beauty subscription service. You pay $10 a month, or $110 a year (basically you get one bag free for paying up front for a year) and once a month a package comes straight to your mailbox that contains a cute little makeup bag and five full size, or deluxe size sample beauty products. It's a great way to try out new products and build your makeup collection for a cheap price.

ipsy has a survey on their site where you can tailor your box to your likes and wants. Every month they have around 35 to 40 different items that go into the bags, and the survey helps them to customize the five items in your bag to suit you. You can further customize your future bags by reviewing your bag items on the ipsy website. While the bag might be the same for everyone, the contents are different.

The theme for the June 2016 Glam Bag, is ''Rebel Rebel''.

This month's bag is really cute. It has a graffiti style design and says ''ipsy'' and ''makeup'' on it numerous times. I don't particularly need another makeup bag at the moment, so I'll be passing this on to someone who can use it.

On to the contents!

Colorpop Cosmetics Creme Gel Liner in the color Swerve - Full Size- $5.00

This is a great little eyeliner. It goes on super smooth and creamy and dries down to a gorgeous, deep, matte black. When you first put it on it is very blendable, but once it sets it is smudge proof. I really like this for my waterline and tightline because it has zero transfer. The point is small enough that it makes a nice thin line, and makes a pretty decent wing. This eyeliner is a fantastic value for the money. It performs like a high end, higher priced eyeliner.

Japonesque Solid Brush Cleanser- Sample Size- $3.50

This was my first experience with a solid brush cleaner. It's super easy to use. You wet the brush, then swirl it over the surface of the balm to remove impurities, then you rinse the brush under running water and wipe the balm surface to refresh. It's quick, it's easy, and it's effective. My favorite thing about it is the packaging. It's perfect for travel.

Dirty Little Secret Cosmetics Illuminating Baked Highlighter in the color Bellisima- Full Size- $9.00

Highlighter! I get excited even thinking about highlighters. Getting one in my ipsy bag, makes me all kinds of happy. I'm still not sure how I feel about the color of this, but the texture is really good, and it sits really nicely on the skin. It has a really nice pearly finish. I'm super pale, ridiculously pale, so colored highlighters just don't look good on me. This would look stunning on darker skin tones.

BioRepublic Skin Care Fiber Masks in Cucumber Breeze and Pomegranate Crush- Full Size- $10.00

There are two of these, so it's kind of like getting an extra product in my bag. These are sheet masks, which I am not a huge fan of. To me, a sheet mask is basically a serum presented in the worst possible delivery method. I get that it's supposed to be luxurious. You are supposed to apply it then sit back and relax and have a little you time for 15-20 minutes. These masks recommend use 3 or 4 times a week. I just don't have that kind of spare time...

I have only tried the Cucumber Breeze mask so far. From the website, it's described as:
An ultra-soothing facial mask infused with natural cucumber extract, plant collagen, and vitamin e:
  • Soothes stressed skin and improves complexion.
  • Tightens pores and reduces appearance of fine lines.
  • For calm, rejuvinated, fresh, clean skin.
I didn't see any difference in my skin from a single use. Since they recomend multiple treetments per week, I am assuming it takes a few applications to see any real results. After removing the mask you are supposed to tap the remaining serum into your skin, which left my face sticky. I figured that would go away as it absorbed, but 2 hours later my skin was still sticky to the touch. My cat also will not stop sniffing my face! She's like obsessed with the scent. It does have a nice scent, so I can't really blame her.

I really think this is one of those products that a single use isn't enough to get a feel for the items performance. I don't this kind of item is a good fit for the Glam bag because of that. I just didn't get enough of an expreience with how it performs to even consider buying it, since the experience that I did have wasn't that great. The stickiness and horrible delivery method aren't enough to turn me off if the product worked really well, but a single mask of each type isn't going to deliver the results to prove to me it's a worthwhile product.

theBalm Cosmetics Meet Matt(e) Trimony Eyeshadow in the color  Matt Kumar- Full Size- $5.50

This eyeshadow is described as being a "matte cranberry", but I think it's more of a rust than cranberry. I really like the color. The formula is really creamy and blends really well. You definitely need a primer with this, or it will be worn off in a few hours. It has no staying power without some help. Also, there was more fallout than I have ever seen. I'll definitely be using it wet to keep it from ruining all my other makeup when I'm applying it. The performance is definitely on par with the price tag. The color and texture are really nice, but it wears too fast and the fallout is a bit insane. With a little work it is a nice eyeshadow.

This month's bag only has a $33 value, but it's almost all full sized products which is always nice. It's also kind of 6 products instead of just 5 because of there being two different BioRepublic masks. In all, I'm pretty happy with this bag. The masks were a miss for me, but I'm pretty happy with everything else. I'm much happier this month than I was last month. I definitely got my $10 worth this month.
