How to Better Manage Your Autumn School Run

How to Better Manage Your Autumn School Run

The kids are back at school and that means the Monday to Friday school run operations are also back in full swing. The long summer break may have put you a bit our of sync and you might now be struggling to get back into school mode. Lucky for you, we’ve prepared a handy guide for you that will help you navigate your way back to your old position of school run supremo.

1. Keep Calm and Carry On
This London wartime mantra holds true for many family situations even in the modern setting. The chaotic morning routine before successfully getting all the kids into the car without forgetting anything is an Olympian undertaking, but it requires composure and calmness first and foremost. So, take a deep breath, close your eyes and visualize the plans and steps you need to take clearly in your mind before you begin.

2. Make Detailed Plans
Some might say that making a plan is the first step towards disappointing yourself when one step goes wrong, but we disagree. The routine you’re managing is essentially the same each day, so if you plan ahead, you can be ready for anything, including contingencies for when things go wrong.
l  Checklist for the kids’ school bags
l  Car warmed up on the driveway a few minutes before departure
l  Emergency snacks and supplies pre-loaded into the car
l  A spare outfit for each child stored in the car
l  Gym clothes or other sporting equipment pre-loaded so it’s “forget-proof”

3. Empty the car’s trash daily
Keeping the car clean and organized will help you keep your thoughts organized. There’s nothing like a clean dash, organized glove compartment and trash-free floors to help keep your mind in order, too. Keep a roll of trash bags in the car and get everyone to pick up and dump the trash in the bag when they get home. This way, each morning starts neat and tidy.

4. Plan multiple routes
Of course you don’t need to use satellite navigation to get to school, because you’ve always known the way to get there, right? Well, you might know one way to get there, but do you know all the ways? Always plan at least three possible routes to your kids’ schools just in case weather or roadworks mean you have to switch things up to get there on time. Check local traffic reports before you set out and adjust your route accordingly. You can even coordinate traffic intelligence with other parents in your circle!

5. Work out parking ahead of time (again, with alternatives)
Once you’re there, you may not be able to simply drop off and drive off. You may have to walk young children up to the gate or even into the school. If that’s the case, you’ll need a handy place to park. Urban schools don’t always come with off-street parking, and you may get a ticket if you end up in the wrong place. Scout ahead, and work out two or three possibilities for parking as you drop off your kids at school.

Follow this guide and mitigate the inevitable chaos and stress caused by the daily school run.

Five Reasons to Buy a Dodge Charger

Five Reasons to Buy a Dodge Charger

Dodge is a brand that screams excitement, muscle and power. The Dodge Charger is the perfect product of this branding; a manifestation of raw, automotive power. In this article we will explore the top 5 reasons to make the Dodge Charger your next car.

1. It’s about power, not gadgetry
Many new cars headline their tech features as the big new thing, but that’s not what everyone wants. A lot of people are looking, first and foremost, for power and reliability. This is not to say that the Charger comes with no tech, because it does, but it is still the car of choice for those out there looking for a true pure-bred muscle car.

2. Engine options
l  Base trim: 3.6L V6 --- 292hp --- 260lb-ft of torque
l  R/T 5.7L V8 --- 370hp --- 395lb-ft of torque
l  R/T Scat Pak --- 6.4L V8 --- 485hp --- 475lb-ft of torque
l  SRT Hellcat --- V8 supercharged --- 707hp --- 650lb-ft of torque

3. Make it your own
The charger is truly the car for the individual. Since 2018, the list of customization options has been huge, making it possible for you to craft this car to be just right for whatever you’re after. No matter how many people buy the Charger, and whichever trim they opt for, you can still have the space to make yours stand out in the crowd.

4. Surprisingly user-friendly
All this talk of power and muscle might make some balk, thinking that it would be like driving a tank. The Charger is actually very user-friendly, with all controls ergonomically placed and clearly labeled. It takes the stress out of driving a new car, as drivers quickly acclimatize to the dash geography.

5. Driver aids
As we said, it does still come with useful tech features, especially those designed to assist the driver in staying safe. Automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, lane keep assist, lane departure warning and adaptive cruise control all come as standard. The SRT 392 and Hellcat also have blind spot monitoring and a rear cross-traffic alert system.

Hesitate no longer – get down to your nearest dealership today and check out how the Dodge Charger could change your automotive life!

Tips for Driving in the Fall

Tips for Driving in the Fall

The fall may bring with it a relief from sweltering summer temperatures, and beautiful changing colors in the trees, but it also brings its own set of unique risks that we must face on the road. Below we have some essential advice for driving safely in this most changeable and unpredictable of seasons. Take heed!

1. Reduce your speeds by at least 5mph
The fall brings fluctuating temperatures and changeable weather. It might be bright but cool (even frosty) in the morning, but then feel warmer by lunchtime. There also may be leaves strewn all over the roads, and bad light in the late afternoons as the long nights draw closer. For all this, you should slow down from your summer cruising speed and pay closer attention to what’s out there on the road.

One additional point about the leaves – don’t brake hard on them when they’re wet, because wet leaves can be as dangerous as winter ice!

2. Check your tire tread
These varying driving conditions also mean that our tires need to be in tip top shape. Check the tread for wear and tear and take it to your dealership if you think anything looks amiss. Besides the tread, also make sure the tires are inflated enough.

3. Use your lights more, even when it’s not dark yet
As mentioned above, the fall brings strange light conditions in the afternoons. You may well be able to see where you are going, but from a distance, pedestrians can sometimes struggle to see you coming as they’re crossing the road. Kids playing out will pay even less attention. Put on your low beams starting in the late afternoon to make sure that others can always spot you as they enjoy what’s left of the weather before winter comes.

4. Look out for deer
The autumn months bring greater movement of deer, which frequently takes them into the roads. Hitting a deer won’t just injure or kill the innocent animal, but could do serious damage to you or your car as well. Keep the deer, and your insurance premiums, safe by paying extra attention for deer in the road.

5. Be extra careful of glare
As we’ve said, the weather is changeable in the autumn. If could rain all morning but then be bright and sunny by lunchtime. When that bright sunshine hits the wet roads it can create dangerous glare that seriously impairs your ability to drive safely. Slow down, use your sun visors, and don’t take any unnecessary risks.

Autumn may be your favorite season, and it may be one of the least extreme in terms of weather, but that doesn’t mean it brings no danger to motorists. Take care out there!

5 Things To Do Now To Prepare Your Car For Winter

Preparing for the Winter

As someone in a famous TV show once said, “winter is coming.” Yes, it’s a stark reminder that we sooner or later will once again have to grapple with Jack Frost, snowfall, icy roads and other extreme conditions (unless you live in the deep south or California, in which case we say ‘good for you!’) For many Americans, the onset of fall is merely the gateway to winter, and the coming months will bring a whole host of unique dangers that we need to prepare for.

1. The Long Nights and Need for Lights
As the weeks go by, daylight hours get shorter and nights get longer. It will be dark before dinnertime, and driving conditions get treacherous. A lot of people are caught unaware by the rapidly declining afternoon light. If you’ve been on the road for a few hours and are adjusted to the light, you might forget to turn on your headlights. This is not only dangerous for you, but more so for pedestrians and animals in the road that might miss your presence.

2. Car Winter Toolkit – All the Must-Haves
Fall will subside faster than you expect, and so you need to be ready for grandfather winter to steal upon you and your car. While you still don’t need them, get your car’s winter toolkit ready. It should include the following things:
l  A strong ice scraper and snow brush
l  Rock salt (but kitty litter will also do) add traction when you’re stuck in snow
l  First-Aid kit – better to have it and not need it than vice versa
l  A shovel – for when the snow is climbing up all around you and you need to get out
l  Spare winter clothing and blankets
l  A flashlight
l  Jumper cables
l  A rope or chain
l  Spare cell-phone charger
l  Non-perishable food/snacks
l  Sunglasses

3. A Full Maintenance Sweep
Fall may be mild and forgettable, but the winter will bring extremes. In October, take your car in for a full checkup – tires, belts, lights, undercarriage, fluid levels, battery, filters and heating systems. You’ll need all these things in tip-top condition to face the winter months.

4. An Advanced Driving Course
If your family has new drivers, especially teens preparing to drive themselves to school or college for the first time in wintry conditions, then consider setting them up on an advanced driving course to practice how to get control back when skidding, driving in difficult weather and other such useful abilities that experienced drivers take for granted. Don’t let those pesky winter months endanger those you love the most!

5. Plan to Reduce your Driving Needs
A final tip for you. If at all possible, try to make plans to reduce your driving needs during the winter months, either by using public transport, or carpooling with other parents to share the burdens. If we are driving less, then we are reducing any problems we might face.
