Lower back pain treatment

I know a lot of people suffer from lower back pain, myself included! It can be debilitating at times.   I usually take some ibuprofen and use one of those heat patches you buy online or from your local pharmacy. Most of the time that works for me.

Lower back pain has been so bad that I had to go to the doctor or emergency room. This does not happen often, but if the above treatment does not help, I have to get some kind of  relief.  Usually I get a shot for pain and a prescription for muscle relaxers and pain pills. I am not fond of this type of medication at all. But, when I am having THAT type of pain, it is sometimes necessary.

Lower back pain can affect your whole body.  You do not feel good, you don't want to move, and often just lay around.  I am no medical expert, but I am sure laying around is not the best treatment for lower back pain.  You have to find that balance between laying down and getting up and moving around.  This can prove to be difficult when your whole body hurts from lower back pain.  I have also found that soaking in a tub of hot water helps tremendously.

I would rather do some exercise or soak in a tub than take any prescription or over the counter drugs.   I know my mother had to have surgery on her back and she was nor t pleased with the long term results at all.  She has had better luck getting injections in her back, but had her best results when getting physical therapy.

When you go to a physical therapist, they will do all pertinent tests, like xrays, MRIs, CAT scans, etc, to tailor a treatment plan that will help you recover from your pain. Often, they can ge tall of this information.from the doctor that has been treating you. They will teach you what you can do to do to help your particular situation.

Do you have lower back pain?  What treatment options have you sought and what has worked for you?
