Tedious Travel: Getting Through a Long Haul Flight

Booking a trip and getting away from it all every now and again is just what the doctor ordered. And as fun as vacations are, the actual travel part is a different matter. Waiting around at airports and coach stations, scurrying to find transfer buses and everything else is nothing short of stressful. If you have a long haul flight planned for this summer, here are a few things to consider.

Dress in Comfy Clothes
Do you ever look at girls at the airport dressed up to the nines and wonder why on earth they would do that? Looking good is important and dressing to feel good is great, but when you’re sitting in one cramped spot for hours, it makes sense that you’d dress for comfort on this occasion. A pair of leggings with a t-shirt, a loose fitting cardigan and sneakers will allow you to stay comfortable and relax as much as possible. Avoid jeans, blouses and anything else that’s too restrictive. You might think your outfit looks cute when you put it in, but hours into a flight and you can barely move you will soon regret your decision.

Bring Some Skincare Staples
The air on planes is incredibly dry, this is a problem as it leaches your skin of moisture. Do you ever find that after a flight your skin feels dry, sore or irritable? This is the reason why. You don’t have to just deal with problem skin and try and fix it when you arrive at your destination. Taking a couple of products in your in-flight bag can stop the issue before it starts. A clear face mask applied for thirty minutes will hydrate your skin without freaking out the other passengers! Be sure to bring some face wipes so you can remove it. Or just apply a small amount of serum with hyaluronic acid which has excellent moisturizing properties. It takes a couple of minutes to do and could save your skin for the rest of your trip.

Don’t Forget Entertainment
Depending on the flight, you might have some pretty decent in-flight entertainment. However, it’s always worth bringing your own along, especially if you’re in the air for a long time. Even if they’re showing new movies, they’re not likely to all appeal to you (and you might not want to watch them consecutively). Download a series you’ve really been wanting to watch to your tablet or phone, which is sure to keep you busy for hours on end. Since many flights now have USB ports, you don’t have to worry about the battery life and can busy yourself with whatever you’re doing. A really addictive game or a good book are also great ways to kill time.

Pack Some Snacks!

Airplane food is pretty grim if you’re a fussy eater you might be best bringing some food along yourself. Most things are permitted provided they don’t contain more than 100mls of liquid (i.e., soups and saucy dishes). Some sandwiches and other easy to eat lunchtime snacks will do the trick.

The Best Ways To Get Around Abroad

When you are travelling, there are many things that you need to consider. One of the main ones, arguably, is knowing how to get around in your chosen destination. The answer to this problem is likely to vary quite widely depending on the nature of your chosen destination. But you need to know, ideally before you leave, how you intend to make your way around, so that you can prepare for it as best as you can. It doesn’t matter what you finally decide on - either way, you will find that it helps to prepare to some degree or another. In this post, we are going to take a look at some of the best ways to get around when you are abroad - as well as how to prepare for each of them.

+.jpeg
Car

This has to be one of the most popular of all. If you are to be travelling with your family in tow, then this might just be the option for you. Getting around by car certainly has its advantages, not least the fact that you have the freedom to go wherever you wish and don’t particularly need to worry about other people as much as with, say, public transport. But you do need to be a little careful when you are driving in a strange country. It might be that they drive on a different side of the road, for example, or thee could be a lot of road signs you are not sure of the meaning of. You should take great care when going by car, even though it is likely to be a particularly useful way to find your way around your destination.

Motorcycle

Not everyone travels with their family, of course. It might be that you are going on a solo trip[ to somewhere exotic, in which case a motorcycle might be more up your street. Of course, to do this, you do need to make sure that you can confidently ride a motorcycle first, otherwise it might be incredibly dangerous. You’ll probably also want to make sure that you choose your leathers and safety gear as well as you can, as this ensures that you can remain as safe as possible while you ride, and that is the most important factor of all here. If you carry out your research somewhere like Bikers Basics, you should get a good idea of what to look for in your boots and other clothing. Then it is just a matter of hiring your bike once you are out there, and going wherever you feel it takes you. This can be a particularly enjoyable way to get around on holiday.

+.jpeg
Walking

Let’s not forget the classic: walking. There’s nothing wrong with just walking around, particularly if you are in an area which seems prone to it. Walking can be the best way to get around in many kinds of places, from cities to the wilderness, so you should definitely consider this mode of transport when you are planning your trip. To prepare for plenty of walking, you should practice a little before you go on the trip, just in case you are somewhat out of practice. Also be sure to get your hands on some decent walking boots before you go. It really can make all the difference to have something solid on your feet.

15 Handy Items for the Beach This Summer

If you plan to head to the coast this summer, check out these 15 handy items for the beach before you go. You might just find something that will make your beach vacation even more enjoyable

(This post contains affiliate links and we will be compensated if you make a purchase after clicking on our links.) Nothing quite says "summertime" like a trip to the beach. The combination of water, sand, and sun is fun, healing, and rejuvenating. After a good day at the beach, you feel ready to tackle almost anything - even the sunburn you might have gotten if you weren't careful. But any beach lover knows that heading off to your favorite sand dune can also have a downside. First off, sand gets literally everywhere! And keeping your beverage cold can be difficult when there isn't a drop of shade in sight. And, as tough as it can be to admit it, the beach can sometimes get a little boring. After soaking up all that peace and tranquility for a while, it's nice to have a little something to do. But our list of 15 Handy Items for the beach this summer can get you fixed right up and ready for anything. From things to sit on to ways to stay in the shade when you aren't busy playing, I bet you'll find something here to make your next trip to the beach even more enjoyable!

Beach Vacation Accessory Turtleback Sand Coaster Drink Cup Holder, Assorted Colors, Pack of 4

If I had a nickel for every time someone kicked sand in my beverage or knocked it over completely, I'd have the money to go to the beach every day for the rest of my life. (Okay, I exaggerate. It would probably be more like I'd have enough money to go see a movie. During matinee time. Hey, nickels don't add up that fast! You get the idea anyway.) I just love these drink holders. They sit low to the ground and can hold onto a decent sized drink, keeping it a lot safer from tipping over. Plus, they are bright, pretty colors, making them easy to find in the sand!

G4Free Outdoor Automatic Pop up Instant Portable Cabana Beach Tent, Sets up in Seconds 78.7" x 47.2"x 51.2"

This handy little tent is one great option when you are in need of some shade at your favorite beach. With one side completely open, you get some shelter without closing yourself off to the gorgeous surroundings. It's also a nice place to let your kids lay down for a nap!

Popular Round Roundie Yoga Mat Indian Mandala Round Roundie Beach Throw

I think this Mandala Beach Throw is simply stunning. The design seems like the perfect thing to take to the beach, adding to the tranquility of your day. It gives you a lovely and soothing place to sit and relax and enjoy the environment while escaping the sand for a little while. Why sit on a beach towel when you can luxuriate on a Mandala?

Beach Builder Create-A-Sand Castle Building Kit for Kids (18 Pcs)

I'll admit that when I first saw this kit, I thought it was . . . well, cheating. After all, we've all had to build sand castles the good old fashioned way, using our hands or whatever we could find for molds. But I just kept thinking about this kit and how fun it looks. I'd love to give it a try and I bet that it could help take my sand castle building to a whole new level! With 18 pieces to use, you know you could have some fun with this. Although we know you're "really" buying it for your kids, right?

Kelsyus Original Canopy Chair

If you really don't want to sit in the sand at all, you need a good beach chair. And this Kelsyus Canopy Chair might be just the thing you need for great relaxation. You get a nice lightweight chair, a canopy for shade, and a footrest too. All you need is a cold beverage and you are set for a day of rest and relaxation!

Beach Toy Set in Reusable Zippered Bag with Mesh Bag for Easy Clean and Store

When you take kids to the beach, you know how important it is to make sure you bring things along for them to play with. Sometimes we get lucky and they find their own fun in the water and sand. But when they don't, it's nice to have some Beach Toys to play around with. The problem with beach toys is that they can be a wet and sandy mess when it comes time to take them home. That's why I love this set. There's a mesh bag to put them in before you clean them up and a clear plastic bag that zips shut, keeping the mess out of your car until you get the toys home. Lots of fun and less work. I call that a win!

Oryer Womens Chiffon Tassel Beachwear Cover Up Beach Bikini Swimsuit Cover-ups

It's nice to wear your bathing suit when you head to the beach, but when you'd like to cover up a bit, this Chiffon Tassel Beachwear Cover Up is a nice choice. Black is slimming and the tassels are a fun touch. Kick back in this lovely cover up with some sunglasses on and a cool drink in your hand and you'll look quite sexy and mysterious while you watch to make sure the kids don't kill each other!

Aruba Mesh Beach Tote Bag with Insulated Picnic Cooler

Mesh is one of the best things invented when it comes to the beach. Airy and light, yet strong and durable, it is the perfect thing for carrying around items that are all wet and sandy. And this tote bag is even better, because it has a picnic cooler, too! It's the perfect way to keep food and drinks cool and available until you are ready for them. What could be better?

Arcticor Beverage Chilling Ice Cooler

But if a little picnic cooler is simply not big enough to cool the abundance of beverages you and your crew have with you, then you might need to consider this Arcticor Beverage Chilling Ice Cooler. There are four beverage holders to keep your drink handy and cold. Plus the inside compartment holds up to 10 lbs of ice and 24 more beverages! If you plan on spending a long day at the beach with friends, you'll be happier with this ice cooler by your side!

Wakeman Portable Insulated Collapsible Cooler

If you don't really need the beverage holders in your cooler, you might want to check out this Wakeman Portable Cooler instead. It holds up to 28 beverages and when you aren't using it, it collapses down into a nice little item that you can tuck away for easy transport and storage!

Greenfield Collection Deluxe Wine Cooler for 2-People, Mulberry Red

Maybe your trip to the beach is more romantic in nature. You found yourself a quiet little corner of the sand where you can spend time with your beloved and all you need is a nice place to sit and a nice bottle of wine. This awesome Greenfield Wine Cooler will have your wine nicely chilled and waiting for you when you are ready for it. Don't drink wine? Sparkling cider is a perfect fit, too!

TidalBall Set

Looking for some fun and recreation with your friends at the beach? Check out this TidalBall Set! Not only will you get everything you need for some good game playing fun, but the mesh bag for storage will make cleaning up a breeze.

KanJam Ultimate Disc Game

KanJam is a great team game to play with friends at the beach or the park. Fun to play as directed, it is also flexible enough that soon, you might just be making up your own rules for an entirely new game. As long as the first rule is to Have Fun!

GoToys Beach sand toy set, Models and Molds, Bucket, Shovels, Rakes, Mesh bag with pull strings for easy clean, & Reusable Zippered Bag

If you're taking the kids to the beach, no day in the sand would be complete without some great toys to play with. With shovels, molds, and more, your kids will be busy playing for hours. And your inner child is going to want to join in the fun, too!

Intex Oversize Giant 42" Beach Ball for Ages 3 and up

No trip to the beach or water is complete without an oversized beach ball. There might even be a rule about it written somewhere, that showing up without a beach ball leaves you at risk for a "lessening of fun" or something. Why take chances when you can just take a beach ball? When you head to the beach this summer, make sure that you have everything you need to make your visit as fun as possible. With this list of handy items for the beach, you are sure to find something that will make your trip to the sand extra special and fun.  Do you plan on heading to the beach this summer? We'd love to hear about it in the comments below!

The Great American Road Trip

pexels-photo-24821.jpg

It’s pretty much at the top of everyone’s bucket list; taking on one of America’s incredible highway’s. It is part and parcel of having everything anyone could possibly ever hope to see in one giant country. It is also one of those things that people have been spurred on to do through the glamour and grit of films, music, books and even rock n’ roll. They’ve all had their part to play whether it be Kerouac or Dylan, or even Dennis Hopper. It’s a coming of age thing that we’ve all got to do at some point, the problem is picking the right one, and maybe even the right car. But don’t worry, that’s where we come in. We’re here to help you decide on which terrafirma you’re gonna tear across. Yeehaw.

Dana Point to Leggett
This is the almighty California State Route 1, which runs along the Pacific ocean from San Diego right into Redwood country. It’s what most of us can only describe as epic. What’s more, if you’re looking for a far from strenuous introduction into life on the road, then this is the one for you. That doesn’t mean it is boring, quite the opposite. It’s exciting, and that is because there is a ton of stuff to see, especially in the summer. There’s Route 101, the Point Reyes National Seashore, Malibu and Santa Monica, and even a touch of Long Beach. So get yourself a slick convertible, maybe even a classic pony car and enjoy what is on display.

las-vegas-nevada-cities-urban-161772.jpeg

LA to Vegas
It’s one of the greatest experiences any of us can hope to live and tell; jumping in a car and driving off to the city of sins with nothing more than overnight bag and pink showgirl headdress. It’s a weekend away with you and your closest friends, your partner and theirs too. Of course, the drive itself is pretty much nothing but 300 miles of desert, but that doesn’t mean it can’t be fun. Especially if you all decide to chip in and do it properly. No, we’re not talking about getting a limo. We’re talking about shofur bus; we’re talking and booking yourself a tour bus; turning up at Vegas in the same fashion The Rolling Stones would can only be awesome.

Coast to Coast
This is a fantasy for many. It’s the very truest road trip, it’s one for the purists; driving from one coast of the US to the other, taking in approximately 3,500 miles of tarmac along the way. Of course there are numerous different routes you can take, but we recommend you tackle Route 20, which covers Newport and Oregon and Boston, as well as Yellowstone. It’s hard to say what makes this a must-do, but it definitely has something to do with the fact you’re looking at two-three weeks on the road, not to mention it’s pretty fast and easy too.

Miami to Key West
This is one of the shortest you can do, but given it touches the Everglades and rolls onto the Ocean Highway, it is one of the most awe-inspiring road trips anyone can take. And we haven’t even mentioned the jewel in the crown; the Seven Mile Bridge. No points for guessing how long it is.

Dickens On The Strand Festival

For over 40 years, Galveston has hosted an annual Dickens On The Strand festival in The Strand National Historic Landmark District. During this internationally-renowned weekend event, locals and visitors dress as Victorians with a nod to author Charles Dickens and Victorian London.
