Moisturize me!

When I turned 35 my skin suddenly decided to betray me. I started seeing these little lines around my eyes and mouth that were not there before, and the texture of my skin started changing. I suddenly had these dull, dry places that were no that all amusing. I've always had issues with my pores, and luckily that didn't get any worse, but it also didn't get and better. I don't care much for chemical laden store bought skin care items, so I've always done a natural routine of oils and apple cider vinegar. I came to realize with my new skin issues that I needed to step up my game and try something with a little more "oomph".

I started doing some research and decided that what I needed is a product with Retinol. Retinol is a chemical derived from vitamin A that naturally occurs in the body, and can be applied topically to skin to improve skin health and radiance. It's one of the very few such products to actually have scientific evidence to prove that it works. How it works, is it causes your skin cells to turn over more rapidly, which in turn helps to reverse the signs of UV damage like sun spots, and discoloration. It also helps your skin hold onto collagen, and helps produce more collagen. Collagen is your skins structural support, and keeps it firm and elastic. As we age, collagen starts to dissipate, causing skin to slack and create wrinkles.

I did a little research into natural moisturizers with retinol, and didn't really have much luck so I put the searching off and kind of forgot about it for a few months. Then I was reminded about it again when I was presented with the opportunity to try OZ Naturals Super Youth Retinol Moisturizer. A quick glance at the ingredients and a search for the Cruelty Free seal, and I decided to give it a whirl.

I love the way this cream feels. It's thick and creamy, and a little goes a long way. It goes on velvety smooth and absorbs very quickly. I have no problems applying my foundation over it, but when I used primer and foundation it did not work out at all. I'm not sure if maybe I didn't let the moisturizer set long enough, or there was some kind of reaction between it and my primer, but something went wrong. The outcome was cakey, peeley foundation that looked horrible. I had to wash everything off and start again. I didn't use primer the second time, and waited a little longer after moisturizing, and it worked out fine the second go round.

I've only been using it for a short time, in the morning and at night, and I can already see a difference in my skin. The lines around my eyes are losing definition, and the ones around my mouth are completely gone. Over all, my skin feels smoother and tighter. It feels like it did five years ago before any changes started taking place. A bonus, and something I did not expect, is that my pores are starting to look smaller and clearer. My skin tone is also a little more even. It wasn't too differentiating to begin with, but I can see a slight change to a more even appearance. I might be crazy on this, but I swear I've been having to pluck my eyebrows more frequently, and I think the moisturizer is promoting hair growth. My eyebrows can use it, so I'm not going to look that gift horse in the mouth, even if my uni-brow hairs have to be plucked three times more often.

In all I am very satisfied with OZ Naturals Super Youth Retinol Moisturizer.  It's definitely going to be a permanent fixture to my skin care routine. An added bonus, it's made in the U.S.A. That's always a good thing.

  2. Retinol... I don't have that problem yet but when I do I keep that in mind! My skin sheds like crazy which means I have a whole lot of acne if I don't use medications. :) Thanks for the tip!

  4. My skin has started to change as well! Growing up, I always had super soft skin, and just within the past year, my skin has been so dry and "hard" I really think it has something to do with me not drinking enough water though... I should really get on that

That's pretty amazing. It's good to know that it works great on your skin. I normally just use a facial cleanser and a moisturizer, so this is great!
