Getting your vehicle ready for a road trip

 More and more people are taking road trips during the pandemic.  That means we will be in our vehicles much more.  I think that is a great way to take a trip.  But, what do you do to get your car ready?

Oil Change

 I follow my parent's advice on this and get the oil changed before taking any long run trip. It just makes sense.  Fresh oil and a new filter assure your engine will be running smoothly.

Tires

You need to check the tread and the air pressure in all tires.  If the tread is low, go ahead and buy new tires.  And, on the day you leave, go around and check the air pressure manually with a tire gauge to ensure your tires are properly inflated.

Fluid Levels

Check the levels in your transmission fluid.  Check your engine coolant.  Check your windshield washer fluid level.  There is nothing like going down the road and you realize you have no windshield washer fluid to clean your windshield

Clean your vehicle

Wash the outside of your vehicle and clean and vacuum the inside.  Don't forget the trunk!  It feels so much better when your vehicle is clean and you can see what space you have for luggage, coolers, and comfort items.  I always take a blanket and pillow! 

Fuel it up

I always go the night before and fill my car up. That way, we are ready to go the next morning and not have the unnecessary stop for gas! 

Check your trunk

Make sure you have a spare tire and jack.  I also always take a small tool kit for minor repairs, along with a flashlight and jumper cables. I also keep a full first aid kit in my trunk and a small one inside of the car.

Being fully prepared for your road trip assures you won't have to worry about any surprises.  And, if you do have any surprises, you have what you need to make this a great road trip for your entire family!
