How You Can Help End ALS

A few years ago everybody was doing the Ice Bucket Challenge to bring awareness and funding to ALS, also know as Lou Gehrig's disease. I recently watched about a documentary about ALS and I was astounded by how quickly this disease takes over your body.  I am partnering with Linqia to help raise funds and awareness for ALS.  I have received no compensation for this post.  I just want my readers to be aware and hopefully share this post.
Every 90 minutes someone is diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), a progressive neurodegenerative disorder. Each case is different, and the community of people with ALS and the care providers involved with ALS TDI share their experiences to help those newly diagnosed and their families. Advancements in ALS research have provided significant new insights into ALS, how to stratify those diagnosed, and develop effective treatments and cures.
ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig's disease, Charcot's disease, and motor neuron disease (MND), attacks certain cells in the brain and spinal cord needed to keep our muscles moving. Early signs and symptoms of ALS include:
  • muscle cramps and muscle twitching
  • weakness in hands, legs, feet or ankles
  • difficulty speaking or swallowing
When Sarah Coglianese was diagnosed with ALS, she was 33; her daughter Scarlett was just two years old. While Scarlett was learning to take her first steps, Sarah was beginning to use a walker—then, a wheelchair.

Sarah writes: “At first, I was drowning in all my inability, in all the ways I thought I would fail her as a mom. Then something unexpected started to happen. The things I couldn't do for her, she started to do for herself. When she was 2, she dressed herself. By age 3, she was opening doors for me and helping with groceries. At 4, she could make a quiche, and these days she folds laundry and cleans her room with only the slightest bit of prodding. Sometimes, she gets a broom and a dustpan and starts sweeping the floor without being asked. If my foot slips off my footrest, she nonchalantly walks over and plops it back in place.

In 2015, Sarah launched #WhatWouldYouGive, a national campaign that challenges healthy people to give up an ability (e.g. voices, arms, hands, legs), to understand what life with ALS might be like and raise awareness and funding for ALS research. Sarah’s experience with ALS and her journey through motherhood leads her to believe that her disease will ultimately make her daughter stronger, braver, loving and empathetic—something we all hope for our children.

Fun for the Kids with My Town:Farm

This is a sponsored post.

I told you about My Town: Pets last week.  I have some GREAT news for you.  I am going to tell you about MyTown:Farm.  I like this app for kids because it has NO ADS!  Can you say hooray?

I enjoyed playing this before I handed it off to my son.  It has all kinds of adventures for your child on the farm.   Cows moo, roosters crow and hens lay eggs in the barn.  There are many scenes in this app for your child to enjoy.

You can go inside the farm house or in the garden.  I was most impressed with the leaf blower.  It sounded just like a LEAF BLOWER.

There are so many things you can do with My Town: Farm! In the farmhouse you have a  living room and kitchen, you can go upstairs or downstairs and each room has its own interactive things going on.

I like how everything is laid out perfectly in this app.  You can see the arrows of the room or place you want to go next.  I think that is very helpful for any child(and apparently any adult) to have.  I love apps that any child can play and figure out how to play what is being shown.

Not only will this keep your child entertained, but it is a learning experience ,too. that is a big plus in my book.  Hurry now to the Google Play Store, AmazonItunes and download yours now.  You  kids will enjoy it.  And NO ADS to worry about!

Storage Solutions for your home

I received this product in exchange for my honest review.

You can never have enough storage in your home!   I am always buying more baskets and bins to store toys, towels, and just everyday items.   I found a solution to my storage problems.  The Songmics 3 Tier Cube Organizer is the answer.

The storage organizer comes ready to assemble. Even a novice DIY person like myself had no problems putting it together.  It was easy to put together and the directions were clear and concise.   It even had extra parts!  I thought that was great, in case something goes awry, you have extra.

You can build the unit to include all tiers and cubbyholes or you can configure the design to suit your needs.  We all need more storage, so I decided to use all 9 cubes.

Now, I have storage for the things I need.  And, it looks cool too.  What do you think?

I really like that I have the panels for this storage unit.  You can  close them or you can take the panel off This is great, especially if you have things you would like to display.  I have had this unit for about two months and it has held together very well.  I have had many compliments on it , as it is very stylish.

I think this storage unit would be great for any household or apartment.  If you are looking for a  storage solution  for your home, check out the Songmics 3 Tier Cube Organizer.

Disclosure: I received this product in exchange for my honest opinion.

My vacuum sucks!  You know why?  Because I have the  BEST vacuum on this earth!

The Shark® APEX DuoClean Powered Lift-Away®Vacuum  amazed me the first time I used  it.  I was going to vacuum my floor real quick to see how it worked.  Boy, was I surprised at how dirty my carpet was.  This baby really sucks up dirt I did not know I had.  This only made me want to vacuum my whole house.  When I was done, it looked as though my carpets had been cleaned!   I thought my daily vacuuming with another brand was cleaning my floors until I got this Shark.  IT SUCKS!  And I mean it sucks all the dirt out of your carpets and floors.  Talk about a clean sweep,  the   Shark® APEX DuoClean Powered Lift-Away®Vacuum cleans like no other.  The suction power is better than any brand I have tried in my life. And,I have have tried quite a few.

Wait, this vacuum does more than just vacuum your floors. It has a deep cleaning motorized pet tool, an anti-allergen dusting brush, pet multi-tool, duster crevice tool, and comes with an accessory bag.  It has a 7 YEAR WARRANTY!   What more could you ask for in a vacuum?

Chocolate Bourbon Pecan Pie

In the South, Pecan Pie is a staple for any family gathering.  You know it is time for the holidays when we break out the bourbon for baking.  I hope you like this take on Pecan Pie with added chocolate and your favorite bourbon.

Chocolate Bourbon Pecan Pie

Items needed:

1 (9-inch) frozen Deep Dish Pie Shell (thawed)
2 Tablespoons All-Purpose Flour
1/4 cup Sugar
1/4 teaspoon Salt
1 cup Light Corn Syrup
4 large Eggs (beaten)
2 Tablespoons Bourbon
1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract
4 Tablespoons Unsalted Butter (melted)
1 ½ cups chopped Pecans
3/4 cup Mini Semi-Sweet Chocolate Morsels

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In a large mixing bowl, stir together the flour, sugar, salt, light corn syrup, eggs, bourbon, vanilla extract, butter, chopped pecans and chocolate morsels. Pour into pie shell. Bake on the 3rd (middle) rack for around 1 hour and 10 minutes or until the pie rises in the center and is set. Remove from the oven and let cool, then place in the fridge to chill for a few hours until ready to server.
